The electrification of school transportation in Canada is progressing slowly, with less than 5% of the national school bus fleet currently electric. Behind this figure lies a reality in the shadows: that of the drivers and mechanics, as well as the small transport operators who provide transportation to 2.2 million children.
The Canadian Electric School Bus Alliance’s (CESBA) new report, Overview of the impact of school bus electrification in Canada on workers and small transport companies, demonstrates that the success of the transition to electric school buses depends above all on improving working conditions and providing targeted financial support.
